This 12' 4" long, 4' 4" wide vessel is lightweight (125–150 lbs) and capacious, making it both functional and elegant. With a cross-planked bottom, lapstrake sides, and no lofting required, this project is ideal for anyone eager to learn traditional boatbuilding techniques.

Class Details:

  • Location: Spaulding Marine Center

  • Meeting Time: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10 AM to 4 PM 

  • Duration: 12 weeks beginning Feb. 4, 2024 until April 29, 2025 (no classes on 2/25/25 and 2/27/25)

  • Spots Available: 4 student minimum

  • Skill Level: Beginner to experienced woodworkers welcome

Course Highlights:

  • Hands-on instruction led by a professional shipwright

  • Build a classic, functional skiff using traditional methods

  • Develop skills in lapstrake construction, planking, and fastening techniques (including working with "clout" nails)

This course is commissioned, with all materials generously provided by the commissioner. By the end of the program, you’ll gain valuable skills and knowledge while contributing to the creation of one beautiful, handcrafted boat.
